Institutionalisation - becoming different in normal everyday tasks due to a hospital enviroment and it may make an induvidual uncomfortable and not the same as they were before the hospital visit

• Describe some of the effects of hospitalisation on adults
• they may lose touch with their daily routine that they had outside of the hospital
• they may become sad because of this
• it is easy to put on weight when in hospital especially when being bed bound

Understand some of the specific issues related to the hospitalisation of children

seperation distress  - there are 3 stages of this

• protest
• despair
• detachment

illness misconceptions - they think that them acquiring the illness is due to the fact they have been bad and should be punished
