what is diabetes mellitus?
a group of metabolic disorders which are characterised by hyperglycaemia - resulted from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action or both.
the chronic hyperglycaemia is associated with long-term damage of various organs
especially the eyes,kidneys,nerves,heart and blood vessels.
DIAGNOSIS

The above blood results show what is indicative of a person with diabetes having and any of these would aid in the diagnosis of DM
there are two types of diabetes and 1 type which occurs only during gestation (GestationalDM)
Type 1 DM (10% of all DM)
Strong HLA associations linkage to the DQA and DQB genes influenced by the DRB genes.
beta-cell destruction diabetes
largely genetic predisposition but it requires an external causation factor eg viral infection which activates the genetic predisposition to then cause T1DM.
