there are different signal sequences which direct the preformed insulin molecule to certain locations within the cell. the stages are below
mRNA encoding preproinsulin
Translation of preproinsulin
is then directed into the ER where the signal sequence is cleaved off (the signal sequence was used to direct insulin through the correct pathway (into the ER in the first place)
disulfide bond formation occurs
(2 across b and a chain and 1 internal in the a chain)
Converting enzymes cleave off C-peptide
Mature insulin in mature secretory granule

zinc helps insulin crystalize to other proteins and densly pack together what does this also prevent from occuring?
having this crystalization and complex formed with zinc prevents an osmotic effect of drawing in water
