EPO = Erythropoeitin its main effects are all summarised below but it basically causes an increase in reticulocyte production in bone marrow which then leads to an increase in erythrocyte formations which increases the heamatocrit of blood. there are several things/factors that will cause EPO production to be stimulated all are explained belowzers
below
what does a high reticulocyte count mean?
reticulocytes are RBCs that are almost matured into Erythrocytes they are released by bone marrow and are the final precursors to erythrocytes. a high reticulocyte count shows as a measure that the bone marrow has been producing many to make more erythrocytes in the past few days. this is usually a sign of a few things which means the body would want/need more RBCs
why might the body produce more erythrocytes?
this could also be asked as what would further stimulate production of erythropoetin?
erythropoetin is the stimulant for bone marrow to produce more reticulocytes which then mature to erythrocytes (mature RBCs)
it is further stimulated if any of the following decreases occurs
