there are two types of oral cavity epithelium,
lining mucosa = stratified squamous epithelium
Masticatory mucosa = Keratinised stratified squamous epithelium
the oral cavity is made up of the oral cavity proper + the oral vestibule
the oral vestibule is the area between closed lips/cheeks and the teeth/gum ridges
the oral cavity proper is the area deep to the teeth/gum ridges and has posterior communication with the oropharynx
mastication is the process of chewing
the 4 primary muscles used for mastication are all inervated by CN V3 (the mandibular nerve)
Masseter = elevates the mandible
