First line opioids

Coedine

a weak opiod which may be suitable for patients with mild-moderate pain

can be combined with paracetamol in co-codamol form.

Morphine

a strong opiod which is used for patients with moderate-severe pain

Diamorphine

not commonly used in Scotland however is used in other countries.

useful if patient req 24/7 SYRINGE DRIVER.

diamorphine is more water soluble than morphine and so can be given in smaller dosages. which is often more tolerable for patient if morphine is too high volume wise

Second line opioids

Oxycodone

useful if morphine is not tolerated
