skeletal muscle - shivering
smooth muscle - erection of hairs
muscle can be important fopr temperature control
calcium ions are required by all muscles in order to contract
actin and myosin make up to 90% of muscle protein
sarcolemma - cell membrane
cytoplasm - sarcoplasm
myofibril vs myofiber
myofiber is the muscle itself
myofibril is the actin and myosin within the muscle
there are lots of nuclei in skeletal muscle cells as they are SO massively big and so will need cell regeneration proten synthesis along its length etc skeletal muscle is usually voluntry control
cardiac muscle- all muscles contract at the same time this is dif from skeletal as not all contract at the same time. cardiac muscle is striated they are small cells and are uni nucleated sometimes they can have 2 but usually 1. large number eg 30% of the cell volume is mitochondria
the heart
smooth muscle
blood vessels, digestive tract, bladder wall, urinary tract respiratory skin eyes reproductive tract.
small typical cells spindle shaped cells arranged into sheets
slower contraction rate longer duration than cardiac or skeletal muscle actina nd myosin is tethered in place by dense bodies.
